550 cam in a 500
« on: April 23, 2012, 06:09:56 PM »
Ok, so the early CB-650 cam in a CB-550 is performance upgrade (increased duration)
Following that logic, I have a spare CB-550 cam I'd like to put in my CB-500.
Good idea?

If your 500 cam is bad, then yes.
The 550 and 500 have the same cam lobe profile, unlike the Cb650 cam.

I a$$umed the additional 50cc's had a different cam :-[

A relative still has a Yoshimura cam "lost in the garage" that I gave him when he bought my '74 550 back in '78. (I bought the cam new for $100)
I offered him a case of his favorite beer to find it, so far he's not thirsty enough ::)

Stay thirsty my friend :D

a good idea or update is the later 550 cam cover with the locked one piece rocker shafts.
