AS Dukie says:

The Ks are split by serial numbers, until after 1974 or so, when the K numbers become unified.  Its coincidental on the CB750s that the years are so close to the K number. Other Honda models not so.

Ok so help me out.  I have a 1976 CB750.  Built for the USA.  It's a chrome fender, non automatic.  Is it a K6?  What are the differences between the Ks?

Kinda is for the CB750.  But, it was accidental/coincidental rather than intentional.

K means revision in a loose Japanese translation.  And, there are also F models to consider.

Other K models (like The 550, for example) have K numbers unrelated to year model.

yes, revision based. K0 seems to be the first yr on the K models.

1st year of CB500 is K0 ('71) 3rd (& last) yr was K2 ('73)
1st year of CB550 is K0 ('74) 5th(& last) yr was K4 ('78)

I believe there was a 500 K3 in 73. My 500 was a 73 K2 because the shop held it over and it got retitled as a 73. The 73 large guages they ordered didn't fit it when it got wrecked.

Don, wouldn't that make your bike a '73 titled K1 according to the link posted above? Where does your frame serial # fall in that model guide?
My '73 titled cb500 (mfg. date 1/73) has the larger guages (as described in the K2 model guide).
