Thanks for reporting back right away.

Why not just increase the main and see if it fattens up the midrange too.

Maybe no needle shims?

Looking forward to another report. Very exciting.

Oh...I forgot to ask, Did those brass washers fit down in that pocket in the bottom of the slide or did they sit over the top of it? Very important.

Lucky,
The reason not to go with a bigger main is it is already too rich at WOT.
As far as I remember, the shims did fit into the recess.

Thanks Brewsky for that info.
Ok ...I see what you meant about WOT issue.

So if you took off the shim and keep the #42 idle jet maybe that would be the way to fatten up the midrange?

Sure wish you knew about that washer fitting down in that pocket because that is a .012 difference. Well .012 from .019 is + .007 thousandths difference.

Let us know if you rework it . Thanks.

I know it is a lot of work.

Have you measured to see if the taper profile, overall length, and diameter of the needle is the same as what was removed from the carbs?

Well I haven't done any exact measurements but from what I can see, they're the same length & taper. The nonadjustable 78 needles match the second from top needle groove on the 77. Haven't had much time to play with em yet but once I do I'll report back.

Made one of these to adjust the pilot screws as suggested here. Works great! $3.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.
