I had those anti dive forks on my GSXR1100J {1988}, 10 times better than the stock Honda forks.   Upside down forks don't suit the style of these old bikes IMO. I am using 1989 GSXR1100 cartridge forks and they are right side up and have 43mm staunchions, they are cheap to buy in the states, i have a set waiting to be shipped here from California {paid under 200 with clamps and fork brace}, that will be my second set of these forks, i have read that they are a popular mod in some countries for period racing.
I agree that USD's don't look right on these bikes, which is why I suggested RSU's.  By F2 forks, I meant a CBR600F2, which would not look out of place.

Good cartridge forks = happiness. :)

Sorry mate, misread your post

The earlier GSXR forks with the anti dive weren't the worst forks that could be used, it was common here to take the anti dive mechanism off the bottom of the fork leg and put a block off plate in its place, making them a more conventional fork....

I know it's stupid but one reason I used the antidive forks because of the alum fender

Try the GSXR forks out mate, you might like them, i owned a 1988 GSXR1100J that had that front end and i have had that bike well over 140MPH, don't know if i would trust an old Honda front end at those speeds... {although i have been close  :o}  Just remember, those early GSXR's were raced very successfully in the 80's at ridiculous speeds as well.... ;)

I have regularly Mick, and in a straight line they're fine. Post Classic racers are restricted to OEM or forks that were available "back in the day", so mostly spindly 35mm forks, hence the amount of frame bracing required to make them go around corners at speed.

With decent forks and rear suspension though, (not to mention taper roller steering head bearings, bronze swing arm bushes, good modern tyres etc) you don't need much in the way of frame bracing to make old CB750's handle quite well.

I really was surprised at how well my gold K2 handled, Ken Piper, the original builder really got that fork geometry right, it went around corners like a modern bike. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I agree 100% although i wouldn't try hitting 140 on a Honda 4 without a steering damper, i have had some extremely scary tank slappers on well set up Honda's, one in a straight line,  i am a big fan of steering dampers on these old bikes.... ;) {they help you keep your underwear clean}... :o

I still can't get over how great that tank looks on there. I never would have guessed that it could work that well.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Very nice job on that gauge mount mate, only problem is that you probably need to angle it up more so you can see it when you're sitting on the bike, at the moment you'd have to be standing behind the bike to read it? Cheers, Terry. ;D
