Is it possible to...
« on: April 12, 2012, 05:09:23 PM »
over tighten the front caliper and have it squeak more than usual?  i mean it used to squeak before, but after i replaced my front fork seals and put new springs in (progressive), it seems to squeak waaaay more and louder than before.  haha
Any recommendations on getting rid of the squeakiness?

thanks in advance,

Sirsqueaksalot     ;D

Is it adjusted properly at the caliper adjusting bolt? Have the pads become contaminated during disassembly?
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

remove your pads and clean any gunk out that may be there. get a 99 cent package of disc brake lube from your local auto parts place and put on the back of the pads. walla!! fixed!! also make sure your dead pad is adjusted correctly.
do a 5 minute search to see what i mean.

Disc brake lube from the auto parts store is probably petroleum based and is definitely the wrong lube to put on or near the SOHC4 brake pads.
Personally, I don't care to have lube creep into my brake pads/rotor.  But, that WILL quiet squeal. ::)

yes two tired you are probably 100 percent correct about the stuff from the auto parts store being petrolium based.
but the end result is it cured my brake squeal with oem pads. if you have any other suggestions what to use i am definatly all ears!!
thanks for the help.

The correct grease is Dow Corning High Vacuum silicone grease.  Completely unphased by heat (up to 500F in my tests, oven wouldn't go any hotter), doesn't creep or weep.

Um, there have been several threads about this stuff....

Maybe a 5 minute search would show that?   ;D ;D

Sorry, couldn't help myself.. :-[

Cheers,  ;D

And, the bit about the Dow High Vacuum grease is in the FAQ.  Not being a smartarse here; check the FAQ - I often try searches about random things, get frustrated, finally check the FAQ and there's the info.  It's happened to me more than once and you'd think I'd learn...  So, moral of the story - check the FAQ and chances are it's in there.  If not, then spend 5 minutes searching.  (Or 10 minutes until you remember that the search function seems to be wonky. ;D)
