So I think I've had this bike since November of 2010, and I think I can get it back onto the road in the next couple of months. This is my first motorcycle, and I may have gone about it the wrong way. I bought a pretty well used up 1972 Honda CB500 with a recent motor rebuild, and got to hacking.
This is what she looked like when I first bought her:
I've been pretty active on dotheton.com, but I like the SOCH4 forum deals specifically in my kind of bike.
I pretty much have no knowledge base, and I'm learning as I go. Some people seem to get annoyed with my questions, and I get the "search for it" or "research it" vibe sometimes. But its pretty rough searching or researching fo rhtings when you don't know what to call them or how they work! LOL
Anyways, here is where I am today, slugging away with no knowledge...
I hacked the rear of the frame off and with a buddy's help, welded up a Benji's Cafe Racer rear hoop/battery box. Thats a Benji's tank and seat set, and I need to clean up the inside of the tank and coat it. I painted the frame myself after the IRS stuck it in me and spent my powder coating funds. I wrestled the motor into the frame myself, and I installed new bearings in the swingarm and the neck, and then dropped the bike on the garage floor! Over the past couple of days, I've done up the suspension and wheels to the frame, and installed the carbs. To date, the only things I've outsourced was the rebuilding of the nasty carbs and having the old frozen bushings and collar pressed out of the swingarm and new needle bearings installed.
Now I've got to take a couple days break from the project to get married this weekend, but when I get back, I am going to try going full bore on this!
