Ambulance fundraiser ride
« on: April 26, 2012, 02:34:43 AM »
Did a fantastic 100 bike fund raising ride for the NZ Ambulance group (Saint Johns) on Wednesday which happens to be our solidiers rememberance day (ANZAC Day) so we had a great turnout of Harleys, Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, BSA's etc. My pillion wasn't so keen being amongst 100 roaring machines with the odd panic stops as some one 20 bikes up front slowed for an intersection but it was my kinda heaven. Hitting 160 kpm down a back straight had her tapping me on the shoulder, I think that's code for go faster. ;D Ride was 70 k's through 4 towns and some very quiet back roads.
I have to hand it to the organiser marshalls, they held traffic at the round-abouts and intersections then scooted ahead around the pack to the next obstacle. Funny thing, we were roaring down the motorway when another large group of bikes passed us heading in the opposite direction, I was kinda wondering if the lead riders had turned around but it turned out to be the Classic Club group doing same as us. An hour later we are passing a country pub and we see all these bikes racked up so we all pull in and park up for a beer, turns out again it wasn't our group but the Classic guys again ha ha. ;D We did eventually find our pub for the final leg and it was a fun day. Only dark spot was discovering that the group riding 150 miles South doing the same type of fund raising ride lost a Marshalling rider into the armco barrier fence along the Upper Hutt motorway, RIP brother rider. :'(
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
