Haggling is part of the fun. The original owner is not a desperate hobo with the last posession.
I paid over $200 for rolling frame  - but it had wheels and tires worth it plus other parts. This one I would write a check on the spot for 300.

Lighten up Lucky. The world revolves around barter. The "old guy" doesn't sound too slow to me.   :)

The world DOES NOT revolve around barter.

I have GIVEN away nice guitars to students that really wanted to learn how to play guitar.

Maybe the original owner should have given it to jessezm then.

All True but does it really hurt to try. The last bike I bought was a 1971 CB750 from the original owner. He was asking $500. I asked are you firm on the price, he said yes and I paid the man!!! Now was I trying to cheat the guy? Remember it was an asking price!!

HAHAHA!  You all are hilarious.  He actually said he would have given it to me, but he had to have something to show his wife.  He's gonna go buy a bunch of pine straw with the proceeds and was happy as a clam about it.  What i didn't mention is my buddy paid him $900 for the Rickman.  So the 750 was kind of an afterthought.

...and anyways, it was the guy's choice to sell it. He was not ripped off $100. If he wanted more than that, he could have held out for more. This guy is obviously not selling his life's pride and joy so he can survive.

And in a perfect utopian world, yes, it would revolve around relationships and trust, but when was the last time you purchased a used vehicle for the asking price? and completely trusted the sellers description?

Nice find.

For $300.00 I would have jumped all over that.

Even if the bike was too far gone, the seat and a few other things would look good on my bike.

OP--good luck with your new project

It's a nice nickel framed trail bike with a BSA 441 thumper in it.  I'm not sure the name of the model, though.  The motor looks to be in great condition, and I think it'll clean up real nice.  It's got a glass tank and seat.

Here's a picture of exactly what it looks like, except it's red, not blue.

http://www.themotart-journal.com/2010/10/1968-rickman-441-bsa.html

It's got these crazy off-center washer type things for adjusting the chain--there is not movement at the rear axle.  It's a cool little bike, and the frame seems to be in really good shape!

Glad you bought the bike-  there shouldn't have been any question about it being worth 300, even 500, especially if it is what he says it is.

If the engine is built up and still in working order, you'll have a blast on that thing for much much cheaper than you could build it for.

Yeah this guy had a GL in his garage, too!  But it was an '84 full bagger so I let it be...

Bill, welcome to GA!  Looking forward to riding together someday soon--I'll be moving up to Atlanta in the Fall for grad school so I'll be closer to you than Macon.  Barber Vintage Fest is gonna be a blast this year!

That bike would be gone by now with me giving him $300 for it.

I gave $100 for the attached.  And the $100 went to Bear.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I paid £70/$113 for the bottom half for a CB500, this didn't include either side of the engine. Back in the 90's...I only needed 3rd gear.  :-\
I wish I could find a hidden gem.

Great deal on the bike!  I would buy those all day long for that price and not feel the least built guilty.  Makes me second guess my recent purchase for a set of lester rims ($450) for my Guzzi 850 T3 project, then spending another $150 to have them powder coated gloss black.

Hey I just paid $150 for a repro airbox for my 400 that I may never get around to using, so I guess that does put it all into perspective!
