1976 CB750 836 It's Finished!!
« on: April 26, 2012, 01:30:36 PM »
;D Well the sun came out so I got off the board and went for the final shake down cruise on my 1976 CB750. I bought it with no motor and picked up a 500 mile 1977 836 motor from fellow member SOHC digger. The process was pretty smooth except for the sprocket alignment due to the 1977 motor. I bought a 10mm offset rear sprocket from CycleX to solve the problem. I measured the difference between motors and came up with a 9.7mm difference. I'm not going to sweat the .3 mm difference. I also modified the chain guard and used a couple of spacers. It all worked out pretty nice. 120 miles later all is well!!  I took it out on the expressway today and took it up to 95. Nice and smooth and still pulls hard at that speed. Its geared 18 front 46 rear. I don't do wheelies and burnouts anymore (well not much) so I like the gearing for the highway. It's no Busa but it still can haul some ass!!!

Very nice! Looks really good and liked the ride report - never heard of someone running a 46 rear before.

Enjoy it!

I was kind of limited on the sprocket because that was all they had! I usually run a 48 rear but with the extra HP from the 836 it still pulls good in the low RPM!!! CycleX will make the size you want but you would have to wait a while. I think this one is fine!

Is that a brushed finish on your engine covers? Looks real good.

The engine was painted wrinkle black and orange when I got it. After stripping off the paint (which was a PAIN) the engine covers had been sanded. I finished them with 220 400 600 1000 sand paper then a couple of buffing compounds. I didn't want them to be shiny like chrome.

I think their Wiseco. I'll have to ask Digger. Yeah you can tell especially on the highway. With the way its geared (18front 46rear) even in town at low rpms  it still pulls hard!

Very Nice.  Did you paint the airbox?  It's hard to get a nice shine out of 40 year old plastic without painting it.

I see you have several other bikes waiting their turn.

I like it with the 836 kit. I can keep the center stand and it sounds good. I am tempted to take the baffle out and go for a ride. Maybe next week!!

The bike looks great. I have never road a 750 let alone a 836. Sounds like fun to me.

The first CB4 that I have driven is my sons CB350F that we just finished. It doesn't have any power but it is very smooth and fun to drive.

My bike is a 84 V65 Sabre with a Honda line faring. She has some torque and is a lot of fun to drive but not as smooth as the in line fours.

I love these old school bikes. I hope to add a 750 to my garage some day.

Cool bike!

Looks straight out of the 70’s with the aftermarket wheels and exhaust. Best part is, who would ever know that it’s a “street sleeper” with the 836 kit? Pity the poor rider who thinks it’s just another stock K6. That’s the bike I want in my garage. ;D

I almost put the stock pipes and wheels on it, which I still could but I put this on first and decided to leave it that way.  Probably runs way better with the header. Thanks for the compliments!!  ;D

Very nice ZZpete, The paint looks awesome for being original. You get done in a couple weeks which takes most of us Years to accomplish.

Here is the link to that 550 pic on the forum that I sent to Germany. You can see it's in Fat Johns garage. (the names have been changed to protect the innocent).  Should have kept that one...
