Got this winters project bike.
« on: April 16, 2012, 10:44:24 AM »
Hello all I got this winters project it is a 1981 Honda GL500 silverwing. I am sorry for those that like the look of this bike but it is a fugly looking bike. I got it because I like the way the engine looks very unique and should make for a interesting cafe bike.

mcwilliams570,
I'm pretty sure that one is the GL500I Interstate model w/ that Honda fairing & hard bags. That's a decent bike as it sits..but just a little top heavy.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.

Nice score, would love those hard bags and that comfy looking seat on my Suzuki. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Finally got the title all fixed and got it registered. Got to go for a ride instead of going up and down the block. Put a few hundred miles on it this weekend and its not a bad bike. The power is alright gotta keep it on the revs and moves alright.

The front brake is scaring me though. It has SS lines on it new pads and I have bleed it several times and it is way to squishy goes almost to the grip and doesnt slow ya down.  No leaks that I can see either still have air in the line or maybe the pistons are pitted.

Other than the front brake need to replace the fork seals and should be good to go for a few months till I tear it down.

Here is a picture the wife and I took on our ride on Sunday.
