head bolt specs for CB650?
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:36:30 AM »
I'm chasing down oil leaks after a rebuild on my '81 CB650.   I stripped at least 2 bolt holes when reassembling the 22 bolts holding down the head cover.   I suspect I may have inserted some bolts in the wrong holes, in spite of my best attempts to tag them by number from the tightening sequence in the Haynes manual.

Does anyone know where I can find the correct bolt lengths for each of the 22 head cover bolts?

If I remember correctly the 2 longer bolts go into the 2 center holes.  If looking at the cylinder head with the exhaust side facing you it would be the back center 2.  If you need to get a helicoil kit it should be the M-8 1.25 size.

csendker: you are a hero in my book.  Thanks for your help with that pdf!!!

Thank you all for your help.  At least now I can make sure I have the right bolt for the right hole before I start with the helicoil process.  I'll post again once I get it fixed.  May be awhile; the rebuild I just did took 30 hours.

You can find the rest of the exploded diagrams here --> http://www.crotchrocket.com/fiche_select.asp

Just drill down to your bike.  I printed them all out for my bikes and have 2 nice binders handy at all times.

You can also go here --> http://www.honda4fun.com/libretti/libretti.html for a downloadable the Owner's manual and other stuff.
