brakes not releasing
« on: April 27, 2012, 06:28:51 PM »
Hi All
Just picked up my new 350/4 a couple of weeks ago. :)
and on the 2nd ride the front disc brake started lock up and not back off. :(
It wasn't enough to lock up the wheel but enough to make the engine labour at lot.
I backed the pads off with a screwdriver and they work OK but I haven't ridden it yet to see if it happens again.
Any clues on whats happening or how to fix.

Cheers
Richard

Adjust the pad to specs, then pull the brakes on a few times and see if it locks up, if it does crack the bleeder, if it releases the return hole to the master cylinder is blocked, if it doesn't then I would guess at your caliper sticking.

check the caliper piston for corrosion and replace the piston seal. Also like Trueblue said check the fluid return in the MC.

I has the same thing after my bike had stood a while.  Turned out to be corrosion or other muck between the alum cylinder and the steel plate on the back of the brake pad. Cleaned up and worked fine.

+1 to all the above. In my case it was a blocked return hole in my MC.
