Calling all 750 K1 specialist
« on: April 27, 2012, 05:47:42 am »
I am trying to locate a side stand for my 750 K1. Now I was looking  last night and saw a K1 on its center stand with a 4-1. I was informed previously the K1 can not use it's center stand with a 4-1 exhaust unless it has been modified.

My bike has a 3 inch piece of metal attached to the rear passenger peg to stop the center stand fro rubbing the chain.

Is this a PO special mod in regard to the center stand rubbing the chain? Some pics Ive seen on K1 center stands allows for a 4-1 to work properly.

Could it be possible I have the wrong center stand?

Anyone know it there is a center stand that will function properly without modifying?

Thanks all

Thanks fish,  Are you running a 4-1? Would you be able to give me the dimensions if it works with a 4-1? Any other years share the k1 stand?

The strap to stop the center stand is a po mod.  I have a 4-2 on my K1 so I don't know about a 4-1 fitting.  Either way you need something to stop the center stand from rubbing on the chain with a non stock exhaust.

I think it's more about the type of header than the type of center stand. I believe my header is a Jardine, doesn't help you because they don't make them anymore.  It works with a centerstand and yes, I made a stop like you described so the centerstand doesn't rub on the chain.

My guess is the po made a stop to keep the center stand from banging into the exhaust

I will take pics of the frame and where the PO cut off the mounting bracket for the side stand.

Hoodey you are correct. Bracket was placed there to stop the chain from rubbing. But I have no idea why it would even be needed if the stand is year correct.... Center stand shouldnt ttouch the chain either way.

I need to figure this out because the bike is to dangerous to drive as the center stand is only a few inches off the ground.. Any left turns and it hits the ground. Already did this once and it scared the SH*t out of me.

*****Pics to follow tonight on center stand, not on center stand to show how little clearance there is***********

Thanks again guys for the input..

He cut the side stand mount off??  Can you shorten the piece that he welded on so the center stand will go higher?

The original 4 into 4 exhaust had a tab on it that stopped the center stand from rubbing the chain.  Once you take that off then the center stand needs to have a stop or it will hit the chain.  Your center stand looks correct.  Its a little hard to tell but it looks like the sidestand lug didn't need to be cut off.  I would definitely look at getting a lug welded back on.  That's a bad PO mod.

Unfortunately you are going to need to weld that bracket back on for the sidestand. You will also need to make sure the angle is correct so the bike doesn't stand too tall or lean too far. Hopefully someone has a parts frame that one can be cut off of for you.
Without seeing the centerstand in the up position we can't tell much but move or shorten the bracket to get the most clearance you can. You may have to find another header that works with a centerstand. Most people remove the center and leave the sidestand, your PO got it backwards.
