1970 KO find....
« on: April 29, 2012, 05:48:34 PM »
I met an old cb750 collector who has been at it for over 40 years.  I struck a deal with him on a real nice all original 1970 ko.  Its all original runs and rides great, 19,000 miles, beautiful seat, an almost perfect set of original 300's . just needs a little polishing. Wow is it fast, will run circles around my K1.....

Un-frigging believable!!! What a great looking bike. How in the world did you ever get him to part with it??? I know it would be hard for me with any of mine at the moment.

Ok , this guy has 20 750's 3 of which are sandcast 750's.  He knows what they are worth and has a ton of nos parts as well.  I paid more for this bike than all my other bikes, but how often do you come across a KO in this shape I paid $4000.00 which was allot for me but I feel the bike is worth double of that.  Here are some pics of this guys collection

Beautiful bike!  Can't wait to see more pics----  Looks like it was well cared for to survive all of these years in such nice shape. What a deal!!

Always nice when a fellow member shares the price so we can keep track of what people are asking these days. Very nice bike for the money.  Tell us more about this collector. You do not have to reveal name, etc. Just interested in how he started collecting and stuff. Was he a past dealer?

That's an incredible deal mate, I sold my 1/70 build K0 for $7500.00 in 2010 and it was a POS compared to yours! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

He said he was bit with the bug while he was in college, that was when he heard his first cb750 start up in the parking lot of his school in 1970.  A year later he bought a red K1 brand new, which was stolen from his garage within a few weeks.  He went back to the Honda dealer with his insurance money but all they had was a used 69 sandcast( bummer I know), he said on the way home he knew something was different when he felt the bike at full throttle,  he said that bike was an animal.  So he just started buying them up when he saw a deal.  He must have 10 sets of 300 pipes hanging, and I even saw two sets of no number pipes hanging the kicker is all of the bike have their 300's so these are extras.  I tried to buy a set he wouldn't sell any of his parts, you could tell he was very attached to everything he had.  He almost gave me my money back three times and had to stare at it for a few minutes before I left.  That was the first time I had seen a sandcast in person, it was a very interesting collection I wish I had taken more pictures.  He had one more garage he didn't show me that had his 6000 mile red sandcast, and valley green K1 in but that was a few blocks away.   Yeah 4000 for the gold K0 not the sandcast.  He won't part with the sandcast bikes I tried........I will go back and let everyone no if he decides to sell anything else..... 8)

What a great story. How did you find this guy and his bikes Guitar? Reminds me of the TV show American Pickers and they find people with all kind of stuff. You must be doing something right in your life to fall into this ;) This is why this forum is so great and I enjoy it so much. The comradery and the interaction of all the members here. Sure I wish I was the lucky son of a gun that had found this nice KO and brought it home, but honestly I'm just has happy and excited for Guitar and his KO find just if it had been me ;) I know how you feel man, I ran across my KO about a year ago sitting in a man's garage. Great feeling isn't it 8) I know it's early yet and the bike looks in very good shape, but it is 42 years old so it will need some stuff to make it safe and a road worthy machine. What's your plans for it? Are you going to cafe it >:( Ha,Ha. just kidding. Anybody that would even think about doing something like that to a bike like this deserves a punch square in the month and a swift kick in the A$$.

Amazing! That 4k bike you just bought would go for 3 maybe 4 times that here in NZ. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

So I guess the sell of your sandcast on ebay went through without any snags or problems. I know you were concerned for a while about the best way to collect the cash from the sell. I hope everything went good. I still don't know how you parted with it.
