Engine Braking - 76 vs. 77-78
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:32:10 PM »
Has anybody ridden, or have experience with the 76 models versus the 77-78 models, and engine braking?

I'm asking because the idle speed solenoid on the 76 is energized all the time the bike is in gear, while the 77-78 models have the solenoid energized only when the speed is lower than 20 MPH (or so).  I would expect that the 77-78 models have more engine braking when rolling off of the throttle at speeds higher than 20 MPH - but how much, and is the difference even worth the thought/worry?

I'm also asking because my long term plan is to replace the stock speedometer with an aftermarket electronic unit, and I'll be losing the 20 MPH speed switch - and going to the 76 wiring/control.
