You bend the tab (that the needle wires go around) toward the direction that the needle seats. If it's on the bike that means bend the tab upward.
If it's on the bench and upside down, bend it down in toward the needle seat hole.
If none of that makes sense, bend it more in the direction it's already bent as compared to the legs that hold the floats.
Since the tang will close the needle to the seat sooner, you will lower your bowl fuel level.
