500 - 550 Swop Opinion
« on: May 06, 2005, 11:30:31 AM »
I have recently sold my 550/4 supersport 4/1 '76. :'( I had a thought of swopping it back for my 500/4 K1 4/4, '73. Don't know why considering I built the 500 from a box...I think it has a heartbeat but, I think i took to the exhaust and the blue colour of the 550. I presume the 500 would be a better option to keep as a "Classic" symbol. Both bikes are pristine and restored...........opinions. :-\

It hurts to admit when you've made mistakes, But when the're big enough, the pain only lasts a second

I have one of each.

The 500 turns more heads and generates more comment.

The 550 is probably a better bike...

I took the advice of member Rob Lloyd while rebuildiing my 71' 500, and stuck a 75' 550 motor in it. It still says 500four,  the only give away is the clutch assembly and hangar, which are WORLDS better on this motor. I got the bike for $200, the 550 motor for $105 off eBAY, it was execptionally clean. The best of both worlds... I have 2 750s as well, and the 500 does get the attention. (However it is lowered and has open headers)
