Here's a few things I learned (the hard way, of course) with my 3 years of having a G as my only mode of transportation; pass it on to Stepdad if y'all don't already know this stuff... The charging system wasn't designed for burning the headlight day and night (that's law everywhere, right?) so even a new battery will wear out pretty quick ridden daily. I got a battery tender and hooked it up overnight about once a week. I also used to make short (10 mile?) runs at high speed without the headlight on- smart, I know, and I'm $50 poorer after trying to explain why to a South Carolina State Trooper... The top end oiling system is kinda weak- keep the oil fresh. The p.o. of mine wasn't really concerned with this so the cam and rockers were galled, blued and pitted after 9000 miles on the clock, making proper valve adjustment impossible. The oil always seemed to smell gassy in a real short time, so I went with the "cheap oil, often" school after replacing the rocker tower (I mean, it's 2 quarts. Why not?) Lastly, keep the point cam lubed. Mine seemed harder on the heels of the points than any other bike I've owned. All that said, I miss it. It was fun, quick, easily did 80mph on the interstate. Enjoy!
