cb550k2 1976 tank trim
« on: December 20, 2014, 02:17:09 AM »
Hi I guess this and old subject but would like some advice on the chrome plastic mouldings please.
I know the mouldings are no longer made and I have bought some chrome trim from the firm in the UK called solutions, but has anybody yet fitted that trim.
What I would like to know is, do you use the 15 odd metal clips that were under the old trim to fix the new trim.
Also can the external joining cover trims be fitted to make it look correct.
Was the trim shaped/curved using hot water or hot air blower.
Hope you can help gary.

I'd like to see the trim you're referring to - got a link for "Solutions"?

This is what I used for my tank trim. It comes with an adhesive so there's no need for attachment clips and can be applied in one continuous strip; it's pretty flexible so there's no need for heat.  It's also the correct width rather than being too narrow like the door trim is.

I just attached it to the tank. then added the little stainless clips over it to make it look stock. The best stuff for this application I've found so far (and I've been looking for years. Years, I tell you!   ;D)

Here's a link. $12 for enough for two tanks; it'll work on your seat, too!

Thank you so much SohRon for your reply.
That's just what I need for my K2 really nice job and your paintwork and finish brilliant.
I love that colour but I have keep mine stock candy garnet brown.
Big question is where can I buy it, I have ordered another moulding from ebay from the U.S so maybe it the same product. So if you could send me the details that would be great.
I tried the moulding from Solutions today and no way could I get it to go around the neck of the tank without
distorting the trim and it looking terrible.
Look forward to your reply gary.

I literally bought mine at the local Pep Boys... had the adhesive, no problems in around five years.

I used the same stuff from Pep Boys.........works and looks great. I used the same thing on the edges of the painted fenders on my '97 Valkyrie and it looks great there too.
