Hi guys -

I know... I know... they look ugly as hell, but hard panniers could be very useful in long distance trips, as you can lock them and leave them safely on your bike while you have a beer somewhere in the middle of town....

Has anybody tried/succeeded in fitting them to a CBxxx ?

They were a pretty popular add-on back in the day. This is my K1 with Bates hard bags installed.

Agreed. Troll ebay or Craigs for awhile, and you'll be able to pick up a set for cheap, and you'll know that the hardware will work just fine. I picked up a crashed set for $40 or so, did some fiberglass work and they work great and look fine.

I have a locking Shoei set that came in a bike I restored a few years back. They fit my 350f great with the adjustable brackets, abd the boxes are plenty big. I've seen some on eBay from time to time.

i rather like the look of my cb with the hondaline bags. I believe the were made for an early 80's 750 but they bolt right up to my 78 550k.

I used to have Krauser's on my 550 and i liked the look of those even more.

these machines look quite nice with their hard panniers back there!

does a passenger still fit ?

My wife can sit easily with the bags installed. She actually prefers it because she can rest her legs against the bags, which makes her feel more stable and secure.

My bags came with the mounting hardware. I got them several years ago on ebay, so I don't know exactly where the hardware came from, but they were originally on a 750K0, so they bolted right up to mine. By the looks of the hardware that came with mine, I'm fairly certain it was mass-produced specifically to fit these bags on a wide range of motorcycles.

Considering how many of the sohc4's had hard bags a few decades ago, if you're patient I bet you can find a decent set for sale that will bolt right on to your bike.

Yup. I've taken several longish tours with my girlfriend two up with the hard bags and as much gear as we could strap on to the rack. Not much weight on the front tire though so I ended up getting a 76 GL1000 for touring.

Both the Hondaline and Krauser rigs bolted right on with 0 modifications. I think Krauser made a "univeral" rack for their hard bags which i believe is what i had.

Thanks gordon. I love the 550, still have it, and took it on lots of adventures with the lady but i needed a little more.....

I hear you. i like the smaller machines as well but with big wide open spaces, two up, with two plus weeks of gear including full camping / cooking gear we needed a little more grunt.

In the first picture of the CB you can see a tank bag.

There should be plenty of cheaper krauser set ups in your part of the world though. My bags got awfully close to the original 550K 4 into 4 exhaust but would work much better with the supersport 4 into 1.

Fair warning on those Givi's in the first post... I have them on my Tiger and they really are an economy bag. They work ok for the price but they are pretty flimsy. I think they are called E21.

true... but they also look slimmer than most Krausers....

I just bought a set of these, after reading plenty of reviews etc, most where positive, a couple of negatives but overall all was good. I chose them for the top loading and slim design. IMO I think they look good and go with the classic lines of my 400F. Quality looks good to me.
Only issue I have with Givi is the lack of information on how to fit them to a bike that they don't sell specific fitting kits for. Like a universal kit or something. anyway I have decided to fab up my own rack and side racks etc, I will also be fitting a top box either the E45 or 36. thought I would fit the panniers first and then work out what would fit best without looking to big.
Found a rack and side rack kit on eBay for the 400F, not givi but would be a good starting point and modify to my liking etc. Only problem is he only ships to the US and won't even reply to my questions.
