Does anyone have a picture....
« on: May 04, 2005, 01:05:37 PM »
Does anyone have a really good picture of the Boss Maroon metallic that they'd care to email to me? I have a friend who's going to attempt to duplicate it, and he needs a nice pic to go by.
Thanks,

Wait a minute, first off, what color do I have now? And then... does anyone have a good up close picture of an unfaded tank in the same color I have?
Thanks,
Chris

That is a good idea but you can end with a totally wrong color. Digital cameras and monitors have to be calibrated in order to represent colors accurately.

It's just going to be for "close enough" Actually I think he can get the actual shade off my tank, but there's no metal flake left on it, so he wants a reference for that as well. It's not going to be a duplicate of the original, but close.
Thanks,

Chris, here is a guy selling his 1974 CB750 Boss Maroon tank on eBay.  Decent pics.

Thanks Bobby,
That's the picture that convinced me I didn't have maroon. Any idea which of the red I do have?

Chris, I have posted "Scheming my paint scheme" on this forum to see if there is a site or other resource that not only lists the available colors for these old CB's but also displays a paint chip or swatches.  I'm looking to paint my old Tracy Body in an original '70's CB color.

If I get any good info, I'll send it on to you.

Go Sox!

That looks like Candy Anterres Red from a k-6 (?) or if it's a k5, Flake Apricot Red, but that has more metallic in it and will be a more vivid color of red........Anyone have Dondirtbiker's address?
He may be able to send you a correct paint kit.

Boss Maroon metallic is very similar to a 1970's Ford car colour called purple velvet here in UK. A local paint shop mixed me some and its a mix of a honda and bmw clour. next time i go to my garage i may be able to give you more details but mail me direct and remind me
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Check Don Dirtbiker at dondirtbiker@excite.com.  I bought a paint set from him for my F2, and it was awesome.

G'Day Mate, I'm probably just telling you how to suck eggs, but be aware that candy paint is just that, a metallic base coat (in your case silver flake) with a translucent color over the top of the silver flake base. A lot of people think that it's a simple metallic (solid color mixed with aluminum powder) but it's not. I used "Spray Chief" candy maroon, (can't remember the code, but I can get it if you want, I still have some left in the can) and it was the exact match for my K5 tank. Cheers, Terry.  8)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

If anyone has a bike that colour in good shape it's a trivial job to go to any print shop, and some car autobody places, and put a colour-densitometer on the actual bike and get a hex code for the exact colour that would allow it to be replicated anywhere int he world :)

Hi - I have all the Color Rite codes as well as the Lubritech codes for all the CB 750' - I can mail them to you if you're interested  ???
Hav'nt they been published on this board before ? they ought to be !

I also have a link to a company in Germany, who deals with the original colors www.motorradlack.de - take a look.
I bought the paint for my K2 there ( Candy Ruby Red) The guy from the paint-shop was a bit sceptic, as he thought the paint came on spraycans, but of cause it came in ordinary cans.

Most of these colors are made of a base lacquer, which is Silver for most of the "Candy" colors. They are difficult to work with, but I can assure you that the result can be excellent, if done by a skilled proffessional.

Keep the revs up ...
