350f carb mystery?
« on: June 10, 2006, 01:17:22 PM »
Since I revived my 350f last winter it has ran pretty well with the exception of a ratty midrange. Classic too rich symptoms, ran better when cold, 8 stroking when you picked up the throttle after decel. I lowered the slide needles a notch today (raised the clip) and man what a difference. Runs strong and clean through the midrange now, as close to perfect as it will ever get ;D. Here's the question. It's set up stock, standard jet sizes, needle clip formerly set in the middle position, stock airbox/filter, with the exception of a free flowing (and loud) 4 into 2 exhaust. I'm at about 1000ft above sea level here. I don't get why it would run rich in the first place. Altitude isn't very high, and the free flowing exhaust would suggest running lean if anything. I'm sure not #$%*ing here, I'm happy as hell at the results, just curious. Any ideas???

Yep, they were all in the middle notch. Didn't run terrible before, but it runs a lot better now. A little must have been enough. Also they are the stock needles. I put K&L kits in but I thought the supplied needles had a different profile so I cleaned and reused the stock ones.
