You can read about why I wanted to paint my pipes here:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=103160.0

The thread above talks about my 'accidental' prep - scotch brite pad to rusty headers, etc. I tried to get off as much sheen as I could before painting. I hung the pipes in the garage for spraying and put a space heater under them to help dry. I reinstalled on bike after two hours or so and fired it right up. It smoked at the header ports for a few minutes, as expected, and then stopped. No initial flaking, peeling or other issues. I'll see how it holds up. I already need to touch up a few spots due to clanging around during install. Touch ups should be easy enough to do with pipes on bike.

The Rustoleum High Heat Ultra has a nice sheen to it. Definitely not flat black. That may change over time, but looks good after initial ride. Not bad for $15.

My brushed chrome look was pretty bad and rusty. Looks ok in the pic in this thread, but looked bad in person. Without the chrome, the stainless/brushed look starts getting a golden hue. The black is nice and uniform. This specific version of Rustoleum came out looking like powder coat to me, at least for now anyway. And I like black pipes, but I wouldn't have gone this route if I had stock 4-4.
