Preacher 750
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:53:02 PM »
Ok, I do not want to start a war between people who hate the show but a couple of episodes ago on cafe racer they had a guy named preacher on there who had a 936 that he was saying produced 140 h.p. What do you guys think of the bike?

I say bullsh1t, i have heard 140 HP SOHC  figures bandied about but only on methanol, alcohol running bikes that are highly modified or the big strokers that Rex Wolfenden builds down under using cb900 and cb1100 cranks and rods, not too sure what fuel those bikes run but i would say AVgas as a minimum...  WTF is a 926, Cobra motor anyway, they were all 1000cc as far as i know..  That thing doesn't even have the Cobra cast block.... ::)

I didn't see the episode (we don't get cafe racer tv here in Canada), but did he claim this was a dyno'd 140 HP??

A lot of people like to BS about what kind of power their car/bike is making....

logic is typically as follows: "well, stock it made 67 HP, add the overbore pistons, and that should give me an extra 40...modified carbs sound like they'd be good for 10 - 15...velocity stacks should be good for an additional 5 over the airbox....and by cutting off the exhaust at about the oil pan, that should free up a lot! At least 20 HP!"

And there you have a magical 140 HP....

Now I'm not saying this is the case with this bike, because I honestly haven't seen it or know anything about it....but every guy out there with a 350 chevy and a chrome air cleaner lid is typically making in the 500 HP range too if you ask them...and 99.9% of the time, that car hasn't been within a mile of a dyno.

He didn't say it was dyno'd and it was kind of a quick clip they snuck in the main episode so it was probably cut and placed out of context (?)

A "salt-flat racer" without a fairing or front fork brace/fender?  hmmmmm.  I guess trendy bull#$%* never gets old.

Wish there were bigger pics, but I agree that the claims about being a cobra don't seem to add up.

It's a clean bike- probably a hoot to drive on sunny days on clean pavement in a straight line.  3 parts could make it an every day rider, but hey, to each their own. :)

Also- I think the mono shock setup in the back is pretty cool-  super clean yet functional!

It looked looked and sounded good and still went down the track quickly.  Sure, the HP figures were over the top, but so was he, who cares.  Its better than watching Jr and Sr.

at least jr and sr never claim their bikes are rideable, let alone "fast". Those bikes come with 1/4" rubber pads to save your living room hardwood floors from getting scratched by tires and kickstand.
