i have a little time tommorrow in the am to give this a try. did take it for a spin this evening and with the idle set at 1100 where it should be. it did have a small hesitation off idle.
if this does not help i will try the #42 jets. and a carb sync.
leaving tommorrow evening for vacation, no phone,tv, or internet. 7 days on a trout stream with a fly rod and family and friends. oh and a cold one or two. or three..
thank you twotired

sorry for the late re post..between vacation and the in laws in town..you get the idea.
installed the #42 idle jets, new carb insulators between carbs and head. all new clamps and new orings between head and manifold.(hate to have to go back and do it latter, carbs where already off and would be silly not since i was there already). reset/checked float levels and all pasages clear, plus a carb sync. whats the saying? "and there was joy in muddville again" bike runs great no hesitation. air screws ended up being 1 and 3/4 out. also lucky, my needle clips are in the 3rd from top position, not the middle. i believe that is stock. just info for your data base.
thanks for the help!!!

Thanks for reporting back, that Motad exhaust is not as common as some of the others.
To sum up:

1972 CB500
Motad 4 into 1 exhaust.
Intake stock air box with UNI -filter
#100 mm main jet.
#42 mm idle jet.
Needle set on middle position.
Mixture screws 1-3/4 out.

And have you looked tat the spark plugs after making these changes?
