No
But if it worries you then do it, it won't hurt.

ok thats great.. also... there is an oil hole on some gear bushings...should it be lined up with the oil hole on shaft?
or should it force the oil around the inside of the bushing and out to the gear.

If it has a bushing it probably freewheels til the shifter fork sildes it over and engages it, THEN it stops turning...

Make sure you install the snap-rings that locate the gears on the shaft correctly; there is a rounded edge on one side of the ring, and a sharp edge on the other. The rounded side should go against the gear. If they are reversed, the rings can be forced out of their grooves, and allow the gears to slide freely on the shaft, engaging a gear even with the shifter in neutral. It happened to me: the bike moved forward, folding the side-stand and falling over on me, when cranking the motor over with the electric starter during a compression test.

just out of interest some heavy truck gearboxes have gears with index marks on them for assembly a bit like timing marks, this keeps the teeth meshed as they were when new.

The Eaton Roadranger boxes are like this, the reasoning for this is as they turn if they aren't timed correctly the gears will try to climb over each other, they are basically 2 gearboxes in one, they have 2 sets of 3 shafts.  As they bind up it forces the shafts apart and they will actually crack the casings open, I have seen this happen, it's not pretty.
