75 CB750 The Big Banana!
« on: May 07, 2012, 05:23:07 AM »
Hello All!!! So this is the build thread for my newly acquired 75 CB750.
My plans for the bike are to do a cafe style bike, like many others on the site. The current paint job is an obvious horrible repaint, kinda looks like a 5 year old did it. So, I may just go with a ' 69 Camaro Rallye Green with White accents, Its one of my favorite colors and i think it'd look good on the bike.
My first order of business is to get the bike running properly.Right now it runs, sometimes..I was actually riding it almost everyday since i bought it, but yesterday it decided it didn't want to start. New points, condenser, plugs, and petcock are on order, and tonight I'm going to take the carbs apart, clean out the jets real well and verify the float bowl height is adjusted properly.
Also when it was running and i was riding it, it seemed to bog across the RPM range. it wasn't consistent, and the battery is new and seems to be charging properly...any other ideas what to look for?? Thanks all in advance!!! - Dan ;D

Welcome. Start with confirming you have spark on all cylinders.  Did you just buy those rods?

OK, so i haven't gotten anything done on the bike since my last post, the rain here in NJ has prevented me from making enough room in the shop to bring the bike down from the upper garage where it is currently being stored.
While searching around on the internet yesterday, I came across Carpy's site and on it i saw he has extended 2'' swingarms, Ive seen this on newer crotch rockets and couldn't ever really figure out the benefits of doing this to the bike. Can someone please explain this to me?? Thanks all - Dan

Here's a small update, got my clubmans on and also my new exhaust I got from bjatwood. I also adjusted the valves and cam chain tension, adjusted the points and started cleaning up the wiring a little bit. I've only ridden it a few times(the carbs still need adjusting) but god it feels great!!!

And we know that to check the spark you will be smart and take your timing light and walk over and clip it onto each spark plug wire and look for a consistent pulse right??

We know you would not waste time and start pulling spark plugs out of the engine.
