Cam fitting 400/4
« on: May 20, 2012, 09:54:17 AM »
Hi, can any one steer me to how to tell which way up a cam shaft goes? I have lined up the timing marks on he cam sprocket, but the cam could be 180 degrees out? The sprocket has been disconnected from the cam in the past.

Grateful for any advice

Line up the marks and it will be correct. There is no 180 degrees out: the cam turns at 1/2 crank speed, one crank turn will leave the cam "180 degrees out" regardless of which way you set it.

It can go either way up, as long as you're on tdc for 1&4 when you fit it then it will work fine with the cam marks aligned either way.
