Hello all, I am new to the site and restoring older bikes. I got my cb650 a week ago and I am getting a lot of good ideas for restoring my bike here. She will need some work but I love her already, I cant wait to get it running and on the road.

There is a lot of good CB650 specific information over there.

Yes the 650 site is good.  Tired of a couple of the thin skined a$$holes there but they are here too. ;D ;D

Thanks for the heads up. I did notice a lack of 650 threads here , I just thought they were not as popular or something. The guy I picked this one up from said a good carb cleaning should get it running again because it ran but then sat with gas in the carb for a few years, lets hope he is right because to get it on the road is going to take a few parts that i can see already.

needs:
new chain (and probably new sprockets)
new front break master cylinder
new tires
fuel lines
I really want the 4 in to 1 exhaust (any good ideas where I can get one on a budget?)

That is all I know for now.

@ cb650 yeah they are on all message boards, fits in to that idea that you can talk as much trash on a forum as you want because you are not looking the person in the eye and who knows maybe your a bad ass right lol

The 650 is the unloved SOHC4.
How is the inside of the tank? You will want to clean it , and possibly get an inline fuel filter to keep from having to pull the carbs again after the first time you clean them.

I got my new chain and sprockets off ebay pretty reasonably.

I also bought a master cylinder reservoir rebuild kit for one of my bikes from ebay that worked nicely. I will be buying one for my other bike too. They were in working order, but leaked at the o ring at the bottom of the reservoir and the plastic was in rough shape.

Good luck with the bike.

The inside of the tank looked pretty clean but that is not going to stop me from putting some good gas in and cleaning it out as well as checking the pet screen replacing the fuel lines and setting up a good inline fuel filter.

I was looking at the break master cyl on ebay and found a few just have not pulled the trigger on one yet. I am not sure I could do a rebuild the screws are broken off in it and the inside looks all rotted out. What is with the switch that is at the bottom of the brake master cyl? Is that little button needed?

I am on the lookout for a carb seal rebuild kit and finding a lot for the 80's bikes so far (on ebay as well)
