A shout out to all Harley Guru's
« on: May 08, 2012, 01:23:46 AM »
I hope someone can help out here, a mate of mine has a '05 soft tail Duece chopper, it has a Thundermax aftermarket ecu with autotune, its exhaust is a Vance and Hines big-radius 2-1.  It also has a full breather air cleaner but is otherwise stock.  The tuning program he is using on his laptop is Thunderheart from Zippers, and the basemap he has in his module is HBUSSXSGUG040108 .  Ok, now onto the problem, when he blips the throttle when downshifting it pops out of the aircleaner quite loud, it will also do it occasionally from idle if you give the throttle a quick blip.  Looking at the realtime readout on the computer the only thing that seemed out of place to me was the base timing advance seemed to be rather high, 15 degrees but I have no Harley experience so I'm not sure what they are standard.  Other than the pop out the intake the bike runs sweet the plugs are ever so slightly dark but they are still tan right on the tip, so the mixtures are somewhere close.

This Harley guy is no help. I had my 03 Fat Boy set up at the Harley dealer. 95ci with 204(?) cam and Harley race tuner. V & H 2 - 1 ProPipe with air cleaner stuff. They tuned it in good. 84hp and 94 ft lbs. 1 more of each than the Harley 103ci graph. No problems other than that damned rev limiter  ;D
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I really want to help this guy out, not only is he a good mate of mine, he is also my best customer, he owns a courier buisness, and I do all the maintenance and repairs on his trucks.  Anyway he came to see me yesterday arvo, knowing I play with old Jap bikes, asking if I could help out with his Harley.  He has had it to the "experts" and all they managed to do was make it worse, last night when we were tweaking it we managed to get it so it was only popping every now and then rather than every time.  The problem is now I have taken it as far as I'm willing to, I just don't know enough about these engines to tweak too much.
