rear sets but still want passenger pegs
« on: June 11, 2012, 04:48:49 PM »
is there a cheap easy dirty way to set up some rear sets. well not as far rear as the ones that bolt onto the passenger foot peg section of the frame but one that at least puts the driver pegs back some.

i want to keep my bike a 2 seater

no reason to lose your passenger capabilities with rearsets...but, if you want cheap, they are a lot of work, if you want easy, they are not cheap...
If it works good, it looks good...

Put a superbike bar on it and keep your stock pegs.

I assume you have clubmans or Clipons now with stock pegs which is already a garbage position, throwing 150lbs of dead weight on you back when you are wadded up like a used Kleenex isn't going to make it better so you def need to do something.

I assume we are talking about your 550?

I have Tarozzi rearsets on my 550....while I could "technically" fit passenger pegs behind them, there would be no room for the passenger to put their feet.  If you want cheap, that's not the way to go anyway...they are pricey.

Have you looked for a set of CB400 pegs (from the earlier bikes)?  I've seen posts on here where folks have put them on their 500/550's with success.  They are a "mild" rearset and keep a stock look.  You may have to fiddle with your brake pedal (or replace it), but you'd probably have to do that with other rearsets anyway.  Might be worth looking into.  You can find them on eBay as a set every once in a while.

Dunstall CB500s used a rearset plate that included a passenger peg.  I don't think these were Dunstall made.  I think MC Parts was the manufacturer of these rearsets.

Either way you could make a plate out of 1/4" aluminum to mount your rearsets and leave enough meat behind them to mount the passenger pegs.  Just be aware that the passenger pegs will not be comfortable for you or your passenger.

Yes.  The trick is finding a set.  The ones on eBay seem to get snatched up pretty quickly, but they aren't expensive in the scheme of things.  If you go hunting for some, just be sure to get a set from the earlier 400 (like pre
77 maybe?) as the later models had a more forward position peg set.  You'll have to research when the switch was made....I can't remember for sure.  Good luck!
