Identifying CB160 Year?
« on: May 10, 2012, 02:46:26 PM »
I have a CB160 that I'd like to identify the year. Does anyone know how I might figure that out from the VIN?

Also, my VIN seems to be missing the leading C. I've seen a few other mentions of this in various forums -- was this common? Or is something amiss with my swap meet find? The engine looks to be one of the replacement engines where there was no VIN; whoever replaced it decided not to machine the VIN space and stamped it with too large numbers so it doesn't quite fit in the box, so I can't tell if a leading C ever existed there.

If anyone knows how I might look this up I'd appreciate the help.

cheers,
tom

Thanks, Larry. I didn't see a listing of serial number ranges by year there. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I've looked around but haven't visited the Honda Twins forum. I'd found an old thread here that had some good info, so I tried a post here. But you're right, Honda Twins might be a more appropriate place for the question. Thanks!

I "think" the only way to know for sure is to look at the date label on the wiring harness, provided it is the original harness.

Thanks, Tom. I'll take a look and see if it's the original harness.
