1976 400-4 Fuel filter
« on: June 14, 2006, 02:28:21 PM »
Greetings All!

Newbie to this board. I remember older SOHC boards that were much cruder in design. If this is the same board, nice to see the fresh design.

I am getting crud in my carbs every year. Quite often something will stick in the needle seay causing overflow and flooding. I want to put an inline filter but filters for 3/16ths line applications are not that easy to find, at least the paper element kind, 1/4 inch line looks too bulky.

Is anybody out there running an inline filter and if they are, what is their set-up.

Many thanks!

I recently put on two 1/4" inline filters (Fram, can't recall the part #) for my CB550K1, one for each pair. They are a bit large, and I did have to play around with their location and with the routing of the fuel lines. Obviously, it's important to make sure that the carbs are the lowest point in the line, and unfortunately with these size filters you need to play around a bit to make sure you aren't starving any carbs of fuel.
I am keeping my eye open for a smaller pair, but these will make me feel better about re-clogging my carbs in the meantime,  ;)

1/4" filter about 4" from the petcock so you see it everyday and know if it has crud in it or not. Carry an extra if your going on a long trip, even if your tank is clean, things find there way into that filter.
