What are your favourite police related stories?
« on: May 11, 2012, 05:36:50 PM »
I have a couple to get started.

The first involved the RCMP ... they wear dark brown pants with a yellow stripe down the leg.  A friend and I were riding down a local short cut doing about 95 - 105 mph.  Down the road I caught a glimpse of a different colour yellow on the center stripe of the highway ... then I saw the hand.  We were going so fast that we could not get stopped ... we passed on either side of the Mountie and eventually got turned around about an 1/8 of a mile past him.  My first thought was where did they catch us ... the second thought was bye bye license.  When we got back to him he said they were looking for two escaped prisoners from the Dorchester Penitentiary.  He then said we did not fit the bill ..so have a nice day and continue on your way.  He never did say anything about our excessive speed.

The second involved the night that I put the 750 off the road into the rosgads.  I called the RCMP.  They asked if anyone was hurt.  I said no.  They said that's great they don't respond to motorcycle accidents unless someone is hurt because they have so many motorcycle accidents in the area.  The next day I was riding through the town of Springhill and a guy went past me with a full leg cast riding a CB450 with a full leg cast and crutches fastened to the side of the bike.  It was the beginning of my favourite saying ... Stupid is what Stupid does.

In 1971 I was riding my CB450 down a busy 6 lane highway that has stores on both sides.  I glanced down at the mirror and saw flashing lights approaching.  I pulled to the curb lane and watched as a car being chased by the police zoomed past.  There was a guy in the back seat with a M-1 carbine shooting at the lead police car who was returning fire.  They soon disappeared from sight.  I continued on my way to visit a friend.  They lived in a residential area, 2 houses from the corner.  As I pulled up in front of their house. the car being chased appeared and was crossing the intersection when it was rammed broadside by a police car.  One guy got out and started to run, the cop got out and told him to stop.  He turned and pointed a gun at the officer, the cop fired and he dropped.  Other cops arrived and pulled the other 2 from the car, as they were trapped.  I often wondered where those rounds being fired ended up hitting.  Turned out the 3 were on parole and were planning to rob a store when by chance the officer stopped behind them.  He was planning to go in the same store and saw them putting on masks.  The chase was on.

When I was in high school (mid 70's)my friends and I would make occasional trips to Minneapolis from our tiny town out on the prairie.  After a night of running around we would find a nice quiet place to crash and sleep in the car, a 64 Chevy station wagon.  On this trip there were 6 of us and about 10pm that night as we passed through Delano about 40 miles west of the city we got pulled over by the sheriff and his deputy.  They lined us all up outside the car and proceeded to search the car.  The sheriff pulls out a large bong from under the seat, still full of smoke.  Holding up the smoking bong he then asks each of us in turn, "Is this yours"?  Each of us in turn replies, "No officer I have never seen that before".  At the same time my brother who had the bag down his trousers flipped it out into the ditch where it was eventually spotted by the deputy.  Once again he asks each of us in turn, "Is this yours"?  Again each of us in turn replies, "No officer I have never seen that before".  They eventually told us to be on our way and  for the rest of the trip the car smelled like bong water as it had spilled out when stashed under the seat. ;D

High school. In my buddies yellow 57 Chevy. 4 bald tires. Muffler had fallen off. He turns a corner and those bald tires are just squealing like a pig. 2 police officers on the side of the road bull#$%*ting and no one to pick on until we came along. Pulls us over. Says to my buddy "son your muffler is pretty loud". My buddy very calmy and politely says "no sir, it's not". The cop says "are you being smart with me?". "No sir I'm not. I'll show you". He leads the cop to the trunk, opens it up and there sits the muffler. "That muffler is not making a bit of noise". "Get your ass outta here and get that muffler replaced". Really threw them for a loop and they didn't know how to react.

On another occasion a few years prior to this incident that same buddy, myself and 2 others get arrested for public intoxication. I was 15. I had almost finished a 6 pack of small beers and we were having a blast. They haul us in across the river in Metropolis, IL. and call parents. When all is almost said and done this same buddy says drunkenly and emphatically "I wanna know what you're gonna do with the rest of our beer!?". Cop says "we have a fish fry every Friday night but you're not invited". "Get these kids outta here".

When I was 19 I had a '70 Pontiac Grand Prix that had a RA3 400 under the hood, it was a whale of a car but God awful fast. One night I was cruising around the south west suburbs of Chicago and noticed a car that was blowing stop signs and it pissed me off so I pulled up behind him waiting for a stretch of road to blast past him. When the opportunity came I passed him like he was standing still and as I was going up a hill watching his headlights get smaller, that's when I saw the "cherries". I had just blown away an unmarked cop car.  :o

I was doing a straght through drive from just North of Melbourne in Victoria to home which is 3 hrs North of Brisbane in Queensland, for those of you that don't know, it is a 24hr drive.  We got pulled up for a roadside breath test, about 2 hrs from home in a little hick town, when I pulled up I noticed a stubby sitting on the boot of the cop car, I didn't think much of it, I just assumed he had taken it from someone who had been drinking while driving.  He was sitting on the outskirts of town just waving people down, anyway after blowing in the machine we had a quick chat, I was thinking this copper is actually a really nice bloke, kind of unheard of around here.  Anyway as I was driving away I watched as he walked back to his car, picked up the stubby, take a big swig then procede to wave down the next car.

Hmmmm, my favorites always end the same way. After the officer makes me pour my alcohol into the ditch he tells me that he doesnt want to see me up here on main street again tonight, then tells me to drive straight home and stay home.

Or the cars occupants "tobacco" is confiscated, then we are told to leave and not be seen again.

Its the times when the cops handcuffed  me and gave me a ride to their house is when it really sucked.   My how times have changed.......Boats

This one is good..

I used to do my 10-speed rides and night because of summer heat. I was about 20 miles from home and passing by a tiddy bar.  A tractor truck (no trailer)  pulled out of the parking lot and u-turned back in to another entrance.  The guy was pouring the coals to it as he headed back into the parking lot.

As I past the establishment I heard a huge bang that sounded like the truck had hit the building.  I was becomming  out of sight  of the side of the building he approached as I was riding past. Surely not- like a hollywood movie stunt scene playing out in front of my eyes?!  The truck soon roared past me on my bicycle.

I figured that if what I thought had happened did happen, where were the people storming out the door?  It took  a minute.

There was soon a harley or two, and a couple cars including a two week old toyota pickup that ensued chase. Still too early for police to show up. I pulled over to hear the stories.

The truck driver had spent excess money in the bar expecting to have his knob polished, and when it didn't happen he threw a tantrum and left, and did what I witnessed. I was the only one outside when it happened. The wall he rammed was behind the bar, and he pinned the bartender to the bar. It was said that he dumped the clutch a couple times and squeezed the guy. There was near nekkid women all over crying and carrying on.

About five or ten minutes later the two week old toyota came limping back.  They had been on the guys tail, and even the new toyota's brakes couldn't keep up with the trucks stopping power. He slammed his brakes and the toyota crushed into it, when it returned, the radiator  still had a bit of water pouring out.  The guys in it were still in their softball uniforms and were dreading try explaining this to their S.O. 's.

I seized the opportunity for work. I helped toss bricks out for all the beer I could drink. The manager called the vending company and left a message  to them that their machines would not be secure tonight because of the recent events.  As he hung up the phone the dancers bagan busting the front of the cigarette machine and helping themselves.  I didn't smoke, but left with about 30 packs cradled in my shirt for friends.

Police arrived from two jurisdictions, I told them what I saw. I declined to be interviewed for television, but I parked my bicycle right by the hole in the wall and called my friends and told them to tune in and look for my bicycle on TV.

This thread could go several  pages  on stuff I've seen or done.....

Many moons ago I used to own a GT250 Suzuki which I thought was pretty cool.
A local was not impressed and wanted to race me.
We started  over a hill  and one car in front of us,
he got on the gas and passed the car, while I stayed behind the car
and watched the police lights come on. :-)

We did a plumbing shutdown at a hospital to install some valves. Driving home at 3:30 AM  I noticed one of the headlights on my shop truck was out. I could make it work by giving it a thump but it was cold out. Of course in a small town the local cop pulled me over. Without even asking about it he started writing me a ticket. Since I was outside I walked around front and thumped it on. Soon his back-up arrived and recognized me from a previous job we talked while my ticket was being written. When he handed me my ticket I asked which headlight was out, he said the left, after showing him the high and low beams working his backup was laughing his asz off. The first cop took the ticket back and left. I did get it fixed after that.

Stopped by to visit a buddy at the body shop.

There were two of the local cop cars sitting there - one smashed left front fender hood grill bumper, other smashed right front fender hood grill bumper.

Apparently there was only one parking space available and they were both determined to have it.

Guess where......
