Topic: Damn gas smells like diesel..???

WTF!

Has anyone had this happen before? I ran out of gas pushed 1 mile to the #$%* hole gas station and that nasty crap was enough to burn the eyes I start up my bike when I get back to the shop and it just stinks up the shop with diesel STINK! I was wondering what shyte itself at the stop lights  Apparently it was me.

I've had a couple fill ups recently that were really strong smelling.  No idea wtf they are doing to that stuff....

I think ill stick to the bp next door to me.

Sometimes, the "gasahol" gas-alcohol mix is to blame for some really stinky gas.  Especially when it's burned.  It's been a while since I smelled something like that so I'm thinking that they finally got it figured out.  I'm wondering what they make the ethanol out of.....Cabbage?  It's usually corn.

The bright side to this whole thing was that the ride went off without a hitch otherwise. 300 miles later, no teeth in the seat, and only a tiny amount of chain noise (I think it was there before)

When we had that damn gas/alcohol mix here in Spokane it caused all types of problems plus the gas would smell different depending on what they were making alcohol out of that week. A large amount of it is from potato's. Some corn and wheat. Each has it's own smell.
Other problems included very poor gas mileage, dried out seals in two stroke engines and fuel/air mixture changes because of less gas.

yeah, I got some gas for the boats when we were up njorth at the cabin for memoriakl weekend and I coulda swore that they got the gas&diesel tanks mixed up, but the boats ran fine. I just figured since it was a #$%*ty gas station, they probably had a ton of stabilizer in there or something to account for being in the middle of nowhere

Yeah, I have a gas station nearby that has Bio Gas made from soy..smells funny.. runs fine though...went back to regular gas...

I stopped at a Texaco last year.It was raining down bad and i needed  gas anyway.I pulled up to  the pump marked gas,filled up and went to find a place to wait out the rain.I pull under a office space overhang to wait.Before shutting the zl off it started running badly.I thought maybe due to the water getting to the carbs.Long story short.150 clams for towing back to bike shop,and 50 clams to clean out the carbs filled with DIESEL FUEL.What does the gas station say when i go back?NO HELP!

Switch to Bio Diesel and it will smell like french fries

Some fellow once told me that the gas at cheap stations is cheap because pipelines are often used to supply oil AND gas, and that the first run of gas through a line that had previously held oil would thus be contaminated. This gas would then be bought at a dicount by Pepo's Gas 'N More. Told me that you could often smell the difference, in that the cheap gas smelled like diesel.

I still regard this as a bit of drunken apocrypha, but...?
