Hello gang; My intro.
« on: June 10, 2006, 10:04:23 AM »
Hi all.

I'm a humble Canadian with over 10 years of street riding. As a matter of fact, I got my full Motorcycle licence before I even had a car licence. Since the age of 16, I've been into Sport bikes.  My last bike (Suzuki RF600) - I had to sell it for financial reasons, and due to Ontario retarded insurance (for no reason it went from 60 to 250 /month)... I had difficult time selling it, I knew I won't be back in a saddle for a long while.

This spring, I got the Bike fever... I started looking into older Gixers that I can turn into street-fighter, but insurance quotes cooled me down in a snap.

Then, in one of local bike forums, someone started a thread about Cafe's. There were some Carpy's photos and other misc beautiful bikes. I honestly always liked cafe's and street-fighters, tho cafe's have benefit of better insurance rates. I have this old photo of my late father on NSU (my avatar), and I always wanted to make one for myself.
Thread pointed my in the right direction (SOHC4.US). Here I found everything I needed to know. (Thanks!)

Recently I bought 78 750K... Rough shape is an understatement... pics will follow soon. I'm looking forward to working on it, and riding again.

Kixom,

Welcome to the group. Looking forward to seeing pictures in the future. Just curious, given their "heritage" so to speak, why do cafes benefit from better insurance rates?
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Get that rat-bike running and on the road!  There's a group of us old bike owners who ride in Toronto.  Thursday nights to Tim Hortons on Lakeshore.  Coming up quick!

If you need anything to get the Honda up and running, let me know - I'm near High Park.

Thanks all !!!

Kixom,

Hi Bob,

I didn't word that properly;  I associate Cafe with older (original) sport bikes, and street fighter with newer Super sport types.

In comparison with Sport bikes (or sport bikes with street-fighter makeover), CB750 is not blacklisted by our insurance companies. Blacklisted bikes are difficult to insure, and carry significant surcharges (as much as 300%).

As of right now, my insurance would be:
88 GSXR 750 - $250/month  :'( (if I shop around, maybe half of that)
78 CB 750 - $40/month  ;D

Tintin - Thanks. I'm on the Lakeshore. (in Mississauga tho).
I've seen some cool cafes on the GTA meets. Hope to see you all soon.

So many think the K8s are the stepchilds and such. But There are more and more showing up! It is a good thing! I have notices that more places seem to be slowly carrying more parts for them too. Another nice thing.

Dont let them fool you though. When properly tuned, a stock K8 will keep up with any of the other stock 750s. except MAYBE the vaunted 69 and even then, I have heard the K8 might be slightly quicker.
