Clutch cable perch/adjuster repair?
« on: May 17, 2012, 05:46:21 PM »
On my STF bike project, the threads in the clutch perch are partially damaged. Only about half of them are good. The adjuster screws in and holds, but I'm afraid I may run out of threads when it comes time to adjust the freeplay in the cable.

Is there are away to repair the perch? Maybe press the split part tighter together and run a thread chaser through?
Or, have you ever seen an extra long cable adjuster? That way, I won't have to worry about it unscrewing out of the perch.

Assuming your cable adjusts at the engine as well as the handlebar, 90% of the adj should be done with the adjuster at the engine end. Only the last bit of fine tuning should be done at the handlebar end, exposing only a few threads.  Should be OK.
