I'm not dead - New Project - 1975 Honda CB360 build..
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:04:53 PM »
Hello,

Been a LONG time since I have posted on here (please dont hate me), but I came into a new CB project and wanted to get back to my
roots and post the progress of the new project. I was talking to a customer in the shop the other day (pops owns (and will soon be mine) http://www.joesbarbershopchicago.com) when he said he had a 75 Honda CB360 that he wanted to get rid of. Not that I needed another project, but of course I asked him what he wanted, shape, title of not, etc.. Long story short after some bartering back and forth I got the bike (with a clean IN title) for WELL under $1 a cc. It needs some side covers and a new seat but besides that, the bike is 100% stock and un-cafed (which is super rare now-a-days). Pics below of how it sits currently --->

So here's the question @ hand, what do I do with this thing ? Do I clean it up, throw a new paint-job on it and sell it as a stock/restored bike ? Do I tear into it and make another version of the "famous" CB/CL450 I did a few years back (see below) --->

So SOHC4 people, what should I do ?

Make a replica of your previous build. Thing looks sick! What kind of seat is that on the first build?

It was a replica of a Ducati single seat.
The entire build of the green CB450 can be seen @ http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=15615.msg158045#msg158045

Looks like the 75 CB360 I did this past spring. Tank and side covers were pretty nice and it cleaned up good. Sold it for over $1,000. If you stock it the covers are on eBay. Was a good runner. Here is what it looked like when I found it. Wish I had kept a pic of how it looked when I sold it. Very attractive bike. And since you asked for opinions, I say keep it stock as you are almost there. Cafes are a dime a dozen, nice OEM's are few and far between. Good luck with it.

Welcome back teal. I like the 360's, but they are not as valued as the 550 or 750's in stock form.
So, cafe it up! Do you still have the 450?

The 450 is long gone.
I sold it to my buddy Danny (who helped me build it), he rode it for a year or so, then he sold it to some dude in SoCal who stuck a nasty seat on it and basically ruined it.

Once you sell a bike anything can happen to it.

What is nice is to see a bike after you sold it
to a good owner and they have improved it.

So I am googling all over the world for a CL/CB450 fork brace and I end up back here at the forum.

ProTeal, my question is, where did you get your fork brace from for that CB450 you built?

And now that I have seen the pictures - mind if I copy your exhaust?

Mad - have you looked here?

I had not looked there until now - nothing for a CB450 as far as I can tell - thanks.

Great little bikes ;)I had one the same color, but no frt. disc. Pipes are not original they were upswept in back if my memory is still good after 40 years. I bought one right off the show room floor the first year they came out in 1974 and was my means of transportion my senior year in HS. Lot of talk about cam chain problems and recall on this bike, but never had any problems with mine. Made the mistake of letting my best friend at the time borrow it to go riding with another friend. Long story short he wrecked it >:( He had it repaired, but never seemed quite the same. Traded it in on a 1975 Honda MT250 2 stroke. Found out fast I wasn't a 2 stoke guy, traded it in on a slightly used 1976 CB550. Now that was a nice bike. Wish I had held on to that one  ;D. I'm with Johnie, weather its a 750,550, or 360 I just like the stock bikes.

Welcome back ProTeal, keep us updated on your CB360 project ;) Looks like it doesn't need a whole lot to get it back on the road!!
