CB400f headers. Anyone know which ones these are?
« on: May 17, 2012, 06:24:01 PM »
Looking to find out what kind of headers these are. they came on my 1975 CB400f. I am also looking for ways to maybe change the baffle to make it a bit louder? It is pretty quiet as is. I drilled out the rivet and tried bouncing the muffler on a rubber mat, but it didnt move. Any thoughts or help would be great. Thanks.

The muffler kinda looks like a Mac. Is the baffle removable?

Jardine, grab the baffle with a Vise-Grip if you can and hit that with a hammer..may work.
I was trying to pull a baffle from a mystery header and NOTHING worked..

it seems like it is removable. I would think that if it wasnt there would not be a rivet. The muffler has the header collector built on. So pushing something through is not really an option. Does anyone know if the older MAC stuff was built that way? It looks like the MAC stuff now has the collector seperate or as part of the headers.

I think 754 was right with them being Jardene. I have a set of 4-2 with the same looking mufflers that I was told are Jardene.

Ok sorry i missed that. I had never heard of them. It looks like they no longer make anything for the older bikes :( I am going to check into having somrthing built for the muffler. Are these headers any good?

They are good, but the stock 400F is the sexiest stock header out there. I would be shopping for one of them...

I got the baffle out! I was able to get a pipe through the collector side and hit it out. It had 3 baffle sections inside. I removed one of them and love it. Not too loud at idle or cruise but it really comes alive when you get on it. I am now working on getting the jetting dialed in. It has stock jets in it right now which are too lean. Do you think if i go up one size on both jets that would be good? to a 78 main and a 42 pilot?

I'd try just upping the main first, in my experience 400f's never need a larger pilot than stock
