1971 cb750 fuse?
« on: April 01, 2010, 04:30:33 PM »
I bought this bike about 2 days ago. The previous owner had an automatic starter installed but wasn't working. It was basically just unhooked. I touched the two separated wires together and blew the main fuse, Now the problem. I've just about taken the whole bike apart searching for the fuses, no where to be found. I'm probably just an idiot but if someone could point me in the right direction, tell me where they're located, I would appreciate it. O yeah i do have the clymer manual but it's not in there.
thanks

I'm no expert here, but mine ('73  750) are under the left cover.  My fuse box is in the upper left of that area, and has a rectangular black plastic cover.  It does not look like like a traditional fuse box, but open the lid and there you are.

audio engineer, recording studios and live recording. I did look under the left cover, there's no rectangular cover or anything of the sort. I'll post a pic in a bit maybe that can help. Thanks for the replies though.

This a '70 fuse holder, same as my '71's. It's under the left side cover. It's a small black rubber enclosure. This is the only fuse on a stock  '71 to the best of my knowledge. There may be one somewhere installed by a previous owner.

Hope you get your fuse issue solved.  My '73 died in the middle of a busy intersection after the main fuse fell apart...  Fortunatly, I had sufficent momentum to coast through, and get out of the 5:00 rush.  It was kind enough to quit 100' from our local auto parts store.   I NOW have spares AND tools.

If the stock fuse box was removed hopefully the PO added some inline fuses. Otherwise, the smallest guage wire would likely act as a fusible link and burn in two. Had this happen to me on my old truck. The flaming insulation was dripping off the wire onto the dead grass under the the truck on the shoulder of the road and was on the verge of burning my truck to the ground! You should have seen me beating out the flaming wires and burning grass with my flip-flop.

Looks like your wiring has been spliced by the PO so you want find the fuse you are looking for (see Magpies pic as this is how it should look like. You will either have to correct the wiring and install a new fuse or to remain stock get a new harness and start from there (may be helpful if the PO has spliced other wires).

good work

Brad, is that not an in-line fuse on the brown wire ( lower pic. ) ? Push end slightly and turn, should be a 15A fuse ( only ).
