pre ignition trouble shoot question. 78 stock f3
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:50:50 PM »
I took about a 40 mile ride today it was about 85-90 degrees.
I noticed the bike ping alittle when I would leave from a stop light it was hard to hear but I heard it.
I am using 91 octane, new d8ea plugs, new filter in stock airbox, new oil and filter, points gap set at 14,valves and cam chain adjusted.
I turned the points plate counterclockwise just  a hair to retard the timming and this made no difference.
My points and condensers look brand new but I did notice a tiny spark on the 3-4 points very hard to see.
Can lacquer thinner be used to clean points?I just used a small file and then ran a piece of business card trough them.

To retard the timing, turn the points plate clockwise. Better yet, set the timing with a timing light.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
