I finally got something accomplished on my bike so time to start a thread on it. This is my 74 CB750 that I'm aiming to make into a mild cafe/cruiser. I got the bike in trade for some old snowmobiles
I got it in running condition but the front calipers were seized. The tins were straight but the paint had no shine and it was a dark green blah color. The bike came with a dual disc setup as well as a Mac exhaust system. I got the calipers off first and stripped them down, bead blasted them got new pads seals and piston caps. They are awaiting a polish and reassembly which should be done this week hopefully. I installed new throttle cables last week as the old ones were stuck. The main project I have been working on for the last 5 weeks is the paint. I had to get rid of the green, it was terrible. Trouble is the budget and time is limited. I only get 3-4 hours a week to work on the project if Im lucky between work and family. I've had good success in the past with using spray paint on small projects so I decided to give it a shot on the bike and see how it turned out. Worse case scenario Id just have to re-strip it and respray it with a gun. I stripped the tank down to see what I was working with. Wish I hadn't. What looked like a straight and smooth tank was really a body filler fakie. I should have just roughed it up and shot over it like I did with the side panels which were in halfway decent shape. I striped it down to bare and got it as smooth as I could in the time allowed. I used all Duplicolor spray paint for the project. The color coat is blue Metalspecks paint with 5 coats of clear over top. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the results. It still needs to be wet sanded and buffed but I test fit it today to see how it looks. Once its all done it will be a great 5 foot bike. Not perfect if you look super close but passable for a rider until I can spend more time and $$$ on it. So Ill shut up now and let the pictures speak for themselves.

Next step after wet sand and buffing is to get the calipers on, run new fuel lines and polish the heck out of the rest of the bike. It needs a good cleanup. I need to order up some clubman's and then decide on a seat option. I like the traditional cafe seats but Id like the option of still riding two up with my wife every once in a while so I may go with one of Benji's seats with the removable cowl. Comments are welcome and keep in mind its a work in progress.
