Oil tank liner?
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:56:10 PM »
Ive made a custom oil tank out of mild steel, does the inside need a liner? I realize the oil will keep it from rusting but what about the upper part of the tank that doesnt always have oil touching it? If not a liner, any ideas what i can clean the inside without now that its all buttoned up. Thanks

The oil tank should not need a liner if it was built properly.
Most liners can only withstand a couple hundred degrees, so the oil would
be too hot for the liner.

The top will be oily too from slushing around.

OK cool guys thanks, just wondering if the sloshing would be adequate. Lucky, what do you mean by built properly?

It may not be physical sloshing (or it may) but there will be oily vapors in the tank which will linger on the sides of the tank, forever. Hondas tanks are steel without liners.

Weeell you gotta drag your knees low enough to coat the tank often enough:)

I would not worry about it, starting and stopping will upset the oil level enough to prevent any rust.
