turn signal question
« on: May 19, 2012, 07:33:34 AM »
Left turn signal on my 1971 CB750 stopped working this week. I've had trouble with the switch, so assumed that was the problem, but when I opened the switch to look at it, it seemed fine. If I manually connect the contacts for the right turn signal there they work, but the left doesn't when I do the same thing. With a multimeter I get 12 volts across both sets (right and left). Bulbs are good, I checked.

I've never had to troubleshoot electrical problems. Any advice on where to start? I'm posting here in case this is a common problem and there are easy first things to try. I've been staring at the wiring diagram in the Clymer manual for an hour and if I look at it any more I think my head will explode,

Check the ground for the turn signal on the side that's giving you a problem.

Spot on! I wasted hours only to find the turn signal stem was not making a ground.

Live and learn.  :-X

Not to be obtuse, but how will I check the ground for the turn signal?
