Will Enkei wheels fit a 75' CB550F?
« on: May 30, 2012, 09:24:37 PM »
Can wheels from a 1980/81' KZ440LTD be used on a 1975 CB550F without heavy modification to the bike or the wheels? I was given a set of wheels by my neighbor and I'm not sure what to do with them. To the best of my knowledge the KZ wheels are made by Enkei and the model number is R-1037.

Actually, you could use them but you will have to make up spacers to keep them centered in the swingarm and forks and you will need to know the OD of the Kawasaki wheel bearings and the ID of the Honda bearings so you can get the right wheel bearings for the job, unless they share the same axle diameter then the stock Kawasaki bearings will work... You may have to get inventive with the speedo drive and rear brake stay or arm...

I appreciate the information, I guess I will have to look into bearing size and axle diameter. I would like to put the Enkei wheels on my bike because I dont really care for the spoke wheels that came stock on the CB550F. What other options are out there for wheels?

Is the rear wheel drum? Another expense if it's disc.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

The rear wheel has a drum type brake. I was given the front and rear brake assemblies with the wheels. The Enkei front wheel seems a lot larger in diameter than the stock CB wheel.

Stock 550 wheel is 19", it's unlikely to be bigger than this. The rear is maybe only 16" compared to stock 18".

This is a tough choice now, I just rebuilt the entire electrical system on my CB550F from scratch and it is almost road ready. I would hate to have it locked up in the garage for another month because of more modifications. Im sure the project would involve designing and fabricating custom parts or at least finding the right spacers and other hardware. I will leave this one to you guys, should I bother with the new wheels or just leave it stock?

Yamaha mags take your stock disc up front(bigger bearing ID). How many bolts on the Enkei, I run a Kawi mag on a 750 4 bolt with a redrilled 750 disc, and sleeved down bearings.. I did not set up a speedo drive..
Pay attenion to bolt circle, disc dia. and offset, when looking to mount the front wheel.
You can do it in stages, take rear wheel off, mesure things up, reinstall stock.. then machine a few parts, have another re&re session. Is sprocket size close. or bolt pattern and offset if it had a belt ?

The Enkei is a 4 bolt pattern, so the front brake disk from the CB550 would have to be re-drilled to fit the Enkei wheel. I haven't taken any measurements yet for the offset, but it appears to be about the same. I am waiting on my neighbor to deliver the rest of the rear wheel parts so I can do all the measuring at one time for both wheels. As far as I know it is a chain drive but the bolt pattern and offset are a mystery right now.
