Matching Honda paint colours
« on: May 24, 2012, 02:27:48 AM »
Hi Guys,
I am soon to paint a Honda 750  race bike for salt lake racing and looking for a paint match or info on the red colour from the Honda CB 750 K1, 1970 model. Its a been a long time since I seen one but the colour has stuck in my mind.  If you have a paint code or info  or a picture of the K1 red tank It would make my day if you could please post  for me to look at. ::) so I can start hunting around the paint shops.

Cheers Johno

The color your thinking of is Honda “candy ruby red” and was used on the 1969-70-71 CB750. There isn’t a Honda paint code that has a formula to mix the color from. Honda automotive division did have paint codes & formulas, but not their motorcycle division. Back in the day, the dealer sold you cans of motorcycle paint already mixed as in the example below. However, the Honda 750 candy ruby red paint code is: R-4C

Good example of early Honda automotive paint codes & formulas:

Hinomaru,   Very nice effort, thank you.  Yes thats the colour, I remember the K1 as having a black stripe rather than the gold, at least the Australian version did.  The "ruby red" looked so good with chrome and polished alloy.  I'll print the info and try some Honda bike and car dealers to see if they cab match.
Thank you very much, cheers Johno ;D

That is a nice color. Do you have PPG paint dealers there? One of our members here recently found that PPG had Candy Blue in their data base. Not sure if they have more, I would like to find the Poly Blue for the tank and covers I just bought.
