G'Day Steve, the current contract finishes on the 30th of June, but if the company I work for wins it again (and there's an excellent chance that they will) it'll go for another 5 years. The money is amazing, I've just moved into an apartment which is only costing me around 25% of the tax-free allowances that they're paying me, so no complaints there.
Yep, the down side is the weekly 13 - 14 hours driving, I could fly but I hate flying. (not the actual flight, just the waiting pisses me off) I've leased a new car that returns incredible fuel mileage, (around 40 miles per gallon for a big diesel SUV) and being the "top of the range" model, has all the comforts that make the trip more bearable.
If we don't win the next contract they'll put me into a position here in Melbourne, so it's a win/win for me, but I'm still enjoying Canberra, especially the freedom to jump on the bike after work and ride wherever I want without having to move several cars like I do at home. It could be worse...........
