Newbie - Intro plus a question.
« on: May 20, 2012, 11:50:01 AM »
Hey everyone. I bought a non-running 1977 CB750A 1 year ago. The previous owner assured me it would run but it didn't have an ignition switch. I had to clean out the nasty carbs and play around with the wiring before it would even turn over. I have recently got it running but have a question, when it starts it really wants to move even though it's in neutral. Any ideas?

If mine is running in neutral on the center stand it will spin the rear tire with some force.  Once on the ground it does not seem to want to move.

BTW: I'm still new to the site, as well as the 750a.

Welcome guys, like Bill said, the rear wheel will turn when on the centre stand and the rear tyre is not in contact with the ground. This is just the drag on the gears caused by the oil.
If your bike is trying to move forward when both wheels are on Terra Firma, then you have problems.
As you are new to the bike, just check that the bike really is in neutral.
Neutral is all the way down on the shifter with up once for first gear and up again for top, an easy mistake if you are used to a manual gearbox.

Check that the hydraulic cluthes of Low and High really frees the gears! Lack of use! :'(

Jukku, are you saying it could be stuck in, as if in gear like a normal clutch bike can do after standing?

Low temp, wrong oil viscosity, lack of use (for months), moisture in the oil etc have caused symptoms like MichaelK:s in bigger torque converters that also have a have hydraulic operated mechanical clutch. It is a memory from late 60´s and early 70´s  ::)
