Anyone ever replace all of their phillips engine screws (valve cover, etc) with allen head screws? I've got a couple that are about toast and I'd rather just make them allen heads. This is a sohc 750

Yes. If using stainless ones be sure to use a bit of anti seize on each one and careful tightening them. The stainless threads can pull the aluminium threads right out - don't ask how I know this. Cliff.

Cool. Well the valve cover has all different length of bolts. I'll have to find those, might be kind of a pain? I'll be using a torque wrench on everything I can!

I happened to have a Mid-state bolt and screw right next to my work. It was so nice to go in with a pos jap screw and come out with a SS cap screw! None of my Jap bikes has screws-- I changed over to SS cap screws on all of them. Once in a while I had to buy a cap screw that was too long and fire up the dremel to shorten it- but that was a snap.

Stainlesscycle.com has a complete engine kit for your bike. Costs around $30. A lot easier than hunting around for bolts.

There are kits to be had. This is a common thing to do.

my 650 and 550 both have allen stainless. I bought kits for both and then bought an assortment. almost everything including license plates holders use them

If you really want to get fancy smooth out the stainless heads and polish them to a chrome like finish.

Get a 3/8" allen socket while you're at it but be sure to put an allen wrench in your tool kit too.

looking at the stainless cycle site, its seems they have a pretty good deal.. for my 550 there is a 91 piece set for $30 polished! I feel like that very likely included the rocker cover as mentioned

dont torque those 6mm screws,use you hand only,like a fist rachet or similar.

I got the Stainless Cycle kit a while ago. Everything is in there when you get the $30 kit. Use anti seize with all the bolts. You even get exhaust stud nuts and the kicker pinch bolt. Everything is labeled in individual baggies with an instruction sheet of where everything is supposed to go.

The only problem I've had so far is that around the valve cover the two on the exhaust side, on either end, interfere with the tappet covers. You'll get them on but they rub the edge. (At least they do on mine.)

Mines blocked ... but I just twist off the tappet cover...

I've used the button head ss on both the 750 and the 360. I like the look more than the barrel head.
I just ordered an assortment of different sizes and cut to exact size.
+1 on the anti seize.

I'm not so quick to jump on the antiseize train. I've used it on my spark plugs in my accord before. It made them hard as hell to get out and the threads were white when I did get them out. Just like that write up said. It is easier to get plugs out that didn't have it on it.

The aluminium and stainless react with each other to form a bond, the antiseize will help prevent that. Cliff.

I did this last year and I think I bought mine from StainlessCycle. It was a great decision! It's surprising to me how much better the engine looks with these new screws, and I'm really happy to be done with those (easily stripped) old screws. Make sure you have an impact driver, some PB Blaster, and a dremel. Mine did not come out easily, even with the impact driver.

Does anyone make SS or even zinc plated stock replacements with the original style phillip heads. The stock screws can be really soft but I do like the look of the phillips head vs the allen barrel style heads. Rather then ordering them individually from honda just wondering if someone makes a kit that aren't allen drive.

Not to open a can of worms. but just wondering if you used copper anti-sieze on those plugs? Your description makes it sound like you may have used something else; copper is def. recommended for high heat applications.

Lester, your sig cracks me up every time I see it! Another along the same lines I use occasionally is "Some days aren't worth chewing through the restraints!"
