Looking for 970 (70mm) rings, 1.5mm 1.5mm 2.8mm

The 2.8 in 70mm are easy to find. Anybody have a source for these old rings? They aren't for me and I don't have time to search the world. ;)

Hey Murphy, I have plenty of what you need but you'll have to come and get them.
It's not that I want to see your ugly mug again but Cedric, Billy and Keith want to know when the crazy Yank is going to return. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
We were talking about you last night, would be real nice to have you back.
Bring Sue and the boys, I'm sure I can find a tent. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What size pistons do the 450 & 500 twins use?

APE's 70mm rings don't fit the bill Mike..?
The rings I have for APE are 71mm. I have been through this 1.5 stuff before. I ended up using a spacer ring and having the groove cut. Long/short....it totally sucked and I will not do it again. It is not my project....A friends. I said get Kenny's 970 kit....this thing is old! ;D

Mike,

With all the rings specs you listed and knowing the exact bore size, do  you think that Hastings could match up a set of rings for you?? Might be worth a call and then send a piston to them to double check fit. All else fail, maybe try MTC. They had a stock of odd rings/pistons on the shelf years ago for the SOHC- worth a try. I know Bill and the crew talked to a fella at MTC not long ago about SOHC parts they had leftover.

Good luck and post up what you find. I'm sure someone else is going to run into this issue and need help as well.

Thanks Frank....I'll tell this guy about your suggestion. Like I said...I have done it with the groove spacer but it was a PITA and time consuming.

We have made all of our new 70 and 71mm kits with the later thin rings.  However, 1.5s would be Honda CB450 CB500 twin. Original Kawasaki KZ1000s may also work.

Jay, thanks for chiming in here and answering my earlier question that got swept under the table. ??? I get NO respect  ::) Any time I hear 1.5mm I think stock Honda rings! The old piston/kit manufacturers might have been on to something back in the day.

You're right there Jerry and especially Honda.
The motors that I have been using since the very early 60s (CB92 CB95) all had 2mm compression and 3mm oil control rings. The race kit equivalent were 1.5 and 2mm. Mr Honda was a gifted metallurgist and piston ring manufacturer.
He was so good at his craft that when Julian Charnol who was asked to replicate the six cylinder RC174 race motor could not fathom out some of the technology that had gone into the hardening processes that had gone into this motor.
Julian is a member on here and you might like to read the story behind the SIX.
